"When It's Easy, It's Fun!" |
|
Dear Friend: How would you like to be able to sit down at the piano and figure out any song you can think of? Does this sound almost impossible to you? Well, let me tell you it is not. As a matter of fact, you will be surprised that it is a lot easier than you think. With a little practice, you will start to become good at this. Not only that, you will be impressed with how you sound! More importantly, you will start to feel a real sense of accomplishment as you progress. Many I talk to will hear someone play and say, "I sure wish I could play like that." Have you ever asked yourself why a professional pianist sounds so much better than someone just taking weekly lessons? Was this pianist born with the ability to play beautifully? In some cases, yes, but in the majority of cases, No. To answer this question, there are basically two things that seperate the professional from the amateur or mediocre player. The first is Practice, and the second is Knowledge. As you probably know, being a good piano player is going to take practice. It takes knowledge in order to make sure you are practicing the "right stuff", the "right way". "Good practice produces good results!"
The question becomes, where can you possibly get this kind of knowledge? A possibility may be private lessons, or talking and asking questions to professional musicians. Unfortunately, many of the people I talk to, tell me that in their lessons, they are only learning to read music. Reading music is helpful, but it is not going to get you Still, others I talk to say that when they ask professional musicians questions, they do not get that much, if any, valuable information. "The more you know, the more competition you are for professional musicians." Did you know in order to play almost any song by ear you only need to focus on 3 things? The first, as you probably know is the rhythm of the song you are trying to learn. The second and third things are what we will focus on since you have an objective you are trying to reach. Your goal is to be able to sit down and figure out any song you can think of. Outside of rhythm, the powerhouses that drive music are Melody and Harmony. When you whistle, hum, or sing a tune, you are thinking of the melody. The melody can consist of single notes that you may play in your right hand at first. So, what is harmony? To keep things simple, harmony is the chords that you play. You may choose to play these chords in the left hand at first. After you become more advanced from the information you will be learning, you will discover many different ways to combine melody and harmony.
Speaking of information, you may be thinking that you know a few chords, but not enough to play lots of songs. Or, maybe you are not familiar with the chords in all twelve keys. Maybe you do not know any chords and are interested in learning. This is where I can help with my 32 years of piano playing, and 20 years of teaching. Did you know that there are only 4 chords that form almost every chord in existence? This means that almost all advanced chords are formed from these 4 chords. I am going to tell you what these 4 chords are. "The Major, minor, Augmented, and diminished chords You may have noticed from the previous sentence that Major and Augmented are capitalized, and minor and diminished are lower case. This is part of the knowledge that professional musicians have and others do not. I do not want to spend too much time on this, but Major and Augmented are capitalized because they are based on the Major chord. The minor and diminished chords are lower case since they are based on the minor chord. Now, lets get back to your goal of being able to sit down and figure out any song you can think of.
You will learn some of the things that professional pianists and musicians know:
The question now becomes, once I learn the chords, how can I apply them to the songs I know? Better yet, what about the songs I am trying to figure out? 4 Chords You Need To Know focuses on two songs explained step-by-step, and in great detail. You will learn:
Not only that, I pride myself on being able to put together instructional material in a very easy to follow, and step-by-step method that is fun! Here's what others have told me personally about my teaching, or sent via email:
